Professional colour correction in Galicia includes image balancing, shot matching, exposure, contrast and skin tone adjustments, plus cinematic look development when needed. TRIPLE Q works in person in Galicia and remotely.
Colour correction maintains continuity between shots, interprets camera footage and develops a look that supports the director and cinematographer. For the film-specific process, read our film colour grading guide.
Colour correction, grading and LUTs
Correction balances the image, grading develops its aesthetic, and a LUT is a transformation that can be used in either process.
| Aspect | Colour correction | Creative grading | Applying a LUT |
|---|---|---|---|
| Goal | Balance and normalise the image | Develop a visual look | Apply a predefined transformation |
| Exposure and balance | Shot-specific adjustments | Adjusted to creative intent | Depend on the LUT and input signal |
| Shot matching | Fundamental to the work | Maintained or adapted to the look | Not automatic |
| Personalisation | High | High | Limited by the defined transformation |
| Visual consistency | Worked on shot by shot | Developed across the production | Requires additional adjustments |
| Professional use | Fundamental | Fundamental for a creative finish | A valid tool in a controlled workflow |
Technical and creative LUTs are valid professional tools. Problems arise when the expected input signal, exposure and balance are not checked or shots are not matched afterwards.
What does professional colour correction include?
Depending on the project, TRIPLE Q can provide shot matching, exposure and white balance adjustments, skin tone treatment, look development, film emulation and final deliverables. Scope is agreed for each production.
Primary correction and shot matching
Exposure, colour balance and contrast create a consistent base. Matching matters especially when lighting or cameras change.
Look development and secondary adjustments
The creative direction can include contrast, colour separation, density, skin tones and film emulation. Local adjustments treat specific areas without affecting the entire image equally.
Deliverables
Output settings are agreed with the production. Deliverables may use Rec.709 or other colour spaces and viewing conditions, including appropriate P3 workflows.
Why does a LUT not replace a colourist?
A transformation alone cannot correct, match and develop every shot. A LUT can form part of a wider workflow, but exposure, lighting and balance vary between shots. Misuse can lead to colour casts, unsuitable contrast, inconsistent skin tones or mismatches.
Which productions benefit from colour grading?
Commercials, music videos, shorts, features, documentaries and branded content can all benefit, especially when continuity, a defined aesthetic or specific deliverables matter. Some projects need primarily technical correction; others require more creative development.
How is footage from different cameras matched?
Identify the colour spaces and transfer curves, configure colour management and adjust each shot. TRIPLE Q commonly uses DaVinci Wide Gamut as a working space within a workflow adapted to the material and deliverables. Colour management creates a consistent base but does not replace matching.
How does TRIPLE Q’s process work?
The process covers receipt and conforming, colour setup, primary correction and matching, look development, review and delivery. Conforming reconstructs an edit using the corresponding footage. The team configures the workflow and adjusts exposure, balance and contrast. Look development and matching can happen together; the final result is reviewed with the creative team and delivered to agreed specifications.
Expertise and monitoring
A professional colourist brings dedicated technical and creative knowledge, tools and appropriate monitoring. Editors can also achieve excellent results; a specialist can focus on complex matching, skin tones, multicamera workflows and specific looks. Calibrated displays provide a more reliable basis for decisions than an uncalibrated screen.
Remote and in-person reviews
TRIPLE Q offers remote colour correction and in-person sessions in Galicia. Remote work allows footage exchange and review across locations. In-person sessions provide an appropriate environment to discuss the look, continuity and finish with the director and producer.
How much does a colourist in Galicia cost?
TRIPLE Q’s reference rate for remote colour grading is €60 per finished minute. Longer or more complex productions may require a tailored quote. Footage condition, matching, look development and deliverables affect cost. For productions of around 20–30 minutes or longer, a linear per-minute calculation is not always appropriate. Share the edit, references and technical requirements for a precise proposal. See the remote colour grading service.
Common colour problems
Common issues include incorrect balance, mismatched shots, incorrect colour management, misused LUTs, inconsistent skin tones and unsuitable contrast. Exposure differences can harm continuity, incorrect settings can transform footage unexpectedly and excessive contrast can compromise detail.
What should a production provide?
A locked or nearly locked edit, relevant footage, visual references and delivery specifications are ideal. Depending on the workflow, TRIPLE Q may receive:
- XML or AAF: for exchange and reconstruction of the edit where appropriate.
- A DRP project with original media: to continue a suitable DaVinci Resolve project.
- A ProRes master of the edit: when the material and scope allow that workflow.
A meeting with the director and cinematographer can clarify references, desired treatment, footage needs and final formats.
